Unmanned Drone To Locate Salmon-Munching Birds

Wildlife officials plan to launch an unmanned aircraft on the Oregon coast. They hope the drone will allow them to monitor seabird populations on hard-to-reach rocky islands that serve as nesting grounds.

Oregon Zoo to Release Western Pond Turtles into the Wild

The Oregon Zoo will release 31 western pond turtles into the Columbia River Gorge Wednesday. The turtles are endangered in Washington and threatened in Oregon. In the past 20 years, the wild population has jumped from 100 to 1,600 animals because of recovery efforts.

This year is the 20th anniversary of Lonesome Larry's return to Idaho's Refish Lake. The sockeye salmon was the only one of his species known to have made the 800-mile trip from the ocean to the central Idaho lake.
